Re-Editing blog; a lot of free time..

Hello! So far I’ve told you about our filming delays with the coronavirus happening. Now it’s time to talk about our editing process during the pandemic. So far I’ve had a lot of time on my hands since school has been let out and everyone is practicing social distancing. Though these are key measures that are needed to be taken in order to get over this pandemic, I have realized how much time that I have accumulated. This pandemic Is getting really serious. Especially around Florida, that’s why it’s so important to practice social distancing. Though it’s very important it’s really putting a damper on all of our plans that have to do with reshooting and re-editing. Instead of having my group members over at my house so that we can re-shoot and re-edit we have been stuck in our houses with only FaceTime as a communication. Though we are very lucky to have FaceTime it would be better if we could communicate face-to-face with each other. This is so If we have any problems, our group member could be there to help guide us but instead we have to communicate through our phones. While in this break I plan on trying to edit what we do have for a Movie. I don’t have a lot of experience with editing but as I did before I’m going to try my best to make our movie look presentable and clean. Just today I was on my mothers computer trying to edit I Movie. I’ve came across some bumps in the road though. While trying to edit I was trying to put in the beginning titles and I can’t seem to put them at the right time. Instead of having a group member over at my house I had to FaceTime a group member. This made it very unclear because the group member wasn’t with me. Though this is challenging I’m going to try my best to push forward and re-edit our film.

Re-Filming blog; we have a pandemic...

Hello! The past few weeks have been crazy. As everyone may know there has been a pandemic on our hands. This new virus called the coronavirus has been spreading rapidly causing our schools in local areas to start closing. The last time I was in school was Friday the 13th. The coronavirus has put a holt in my schedule. Everything that was planned to happen can no longer happen due to the coronavirus. The coronavirus is a very contagious virus That easily spreads. This is why our schools in many restaurants around the area have closed. The government has put out some tips on how to protect yourself against the coronavirus. This includes washing your hands for 20 seconds, practice social distancing, and self quarantining. The main thing that’s putting a hold on our production is the social distancing and self quarantine. The coronavirus is scary because you can have it for 14 days and not know or have any symptoms of the disease. So social distancing is very important. Instead of going to peoples houses my group has had to talk to each other via FaceTime. We haven’t gotten to do a lot on our project due to this pandemic. But on FaceTime we have been able to talk about our plans on what we should do for filming and editing. We don’t have a plan because we are not sure when this pandemic will end. My group and I are working diligently to try to re-film and re-edit our movie to make it the best that we can. All of my group members and myself have been brainstorming on ways to get our project done.

Editing blog; I tried...

Hello! In previous blogs I’ve talked about how The editing process has been a little tricky with this new project. In this past week my group and I have tried to fix our project and editing. For our peer review my group and I had to quickly edit our film on our phones. While we were using the same app the phone version has less fonts and made the movie more choppy. This was a really big problem for my group and I because we are all perfectionist and didn’t like how it turned out. I am myself I’m not a very good editor as much as I try, I am very new to editing. For my attempt at editing I took the edited version of our movie that we made for our peer review into iMovie‘s. Keep in mind that our movie was very choppy and short because a lot of things had to be cut out due to the time limit. imovies and editing in general is a whole different playing field, I am usually the one filming. Even though editing was a new thing for me I tried my best with the skills that I’ve learned in class. In class I was taught how to put in titles and fix transitions into the movie. For the movie I picked out two different fonts for our title of the movie and all the beginning credits. The tricky part was putting the titles in for the right amount of time. Though I had valiant effort’s my titles just didn’t look right. At first I put them in for 0.8 seconds, which went by really quickly. On my second or third attempt I’d put them in for slightly longer about 2.5 seconds and I change the positioning of each so it didn’t look as neat. I didn’t want it to look neat because it’s supposed to have a eerie, creepy, unstable type of feeling to it. My other big problem was that I kept accidentally deleting it. After my second or third try I accidentally deleted the whole process. This mistake put me back about 30 minutes which was a lot. Time is of the essence, one may say with editing. Though Ive made many mistakes I’ve learned from them and now I plan on editing with my fellow group member.

Editing blog

Hello! As some may know, last Thursday my class had a peer review for our projects. In this peer review our peers had to critique our films that we put together in a period of three weeks. In the three weeks we had to plan, film, and edit. We’ve covered all but one category, the editing process. My group and I really wanted to get our editing done for the peer review. On our schedule that we made, we had our editing time a week before the peer review. While this was a good plan it didn’t end as well as we wanted it to. Instead of using a Camera provided by the school and pinnacle studios, my group chose to film on our phones and to use iMovie‘s for our camera and editing software. The problem was that our editor did not have the proper software which was I movies at their disposal. Our game plan had to be changed. Instead of editing our whole movie properly, we chose to do a quick edit for our peer review. This is why some scenes might have seemed choppy. The editor in our group decided to edit the movie on her phone using iMovie’s. For our final edit we want to use two different fonts and use better transitions. Along with this problem another obstacle occurred. This was that our film was too long. Well this seems like an easy problem to fix this is quite the opposite. We felt that all of the scenes we are vital to the story that we wanted to convey. To combat this problem we chose to cut some scenes in the editing process. Our new game plan is to use our critiques that our peers gave us and re-shoot some scenes then to re-edit as needed.

Peer Review; My thoughts..

Hello! Tuesday 3/5/20 was a big day for the entire class. Tuesday was a special day because we did our peer reviews for our final task. Our peer review consisted of my group as a whole watching and reviewing another groups final task. For the final task we had a checklist for everything that was required to be in our projects. For this peer review our group watched another groups project to see if they had everything that was on the check list. Every group got a number which was then picked by another group, we picked at random a group who had the number 11. To give you some knowledge about the short film my group and I reviewed, I’m going to summarize it. This 1 minute 45 second film had a girl who was running away from a killer the whole time to then stop, and as soon as she stopped the movie cut to a girl waking up from what seemed to be a bad dream.  While watching group 11’s project, there was an element that I really enjoyed while watching the film. I really liked how clean the transitions were. When there were cuts of the actors running the transitions were really clean and was never choppy. This really made the film look more professional. While also making the scenes seamlessly blend together. One suggestion I would have for the film would be to add some type of music. This music could be some suspenseful music or sound effects. This would help give the movie a more of a horror feeling to it. The music would cause the movie to be more Erie and give a feeling of what a horror movie is supposed to be. The music would improve the film because right now the sounds make the movie a little awkward. The music would help with the professional feel of the movie while also giving it an eerie and horror feel.
